I was hit with a blast of arctic air this morning as I went out to start my car.
I came in and said:
"It's Kansas cold out there!"
You mid-westerner's know exactly what I mean.
Today I am still in recovery mode after my long weekend. For my birthday back in December, Don gifted me with a round trip ticket to Kansas City to see my friends.
I left on Thursday afternoon and spent the next three days eating, shopping, seeing movies and just plain catching up with some very good friends. They were so sweet to leave their husbands in charge of the kids all weekend, and devoted all their time and attention to me. It meant a lot and I am so grateful to have such wonderful women surrounding me--even from a distance. We stayed up very late every night and I am still trying to catch up on my sleep!
I was so lucky I made it home just before the big storm hit...
I missed my kids like crazy. Didn't think I would--just being honest! The morning of the day I left, I had one kid crying because her pants were too itchy, one kid mouthing off, and one preschooler refusing to put his pants on. The elementary kids were late, and I literally had to drag my first grader to her classroom because...well...who really knows? That made us late to preschool and he was upset because apparently I didn't buy the right snacks for his snack day.
So when I left for the airport a few hours later, I was so grateful for the 'quiet' rumble of the jet engines right outside my window.
But now I am back home and ready to tackle the laundry, parent-teacher conferences, book fairs, scouts, basketball, toddler tantrums, activity days, laundry and New Beginnings. Yes, you read that right, NEW BEGINNINGS. My 11.5 year old daughter will be entering Young Women's this summer and this week we get to attend her 'welcome' night this week. So excited, and a little weirded out to have a kid this age!
(If you don't know what I'm talking about--click on the link for more info!)
If you know the story of how I met my husband, (at my Young Women girls camp) then you would be weirded out too by Allyson going to girls camp this summer! HA HA! Actually, it's not funny, it's totally crazy.
Just wanted to end this post with a favorite picture of my kids with my mom....
Check out their tans! Hurry up Spring!
