Weekend Getaway to Nauvoo

We loaded up the car, programmed the GPS, and set off for a little weekend jaunt to Nauvoo, Illinois. We had an absolute blast learning about the LDS Church history. We took a carriage ride tour winding the small streets of the preserved historic homes. We saw the cemetery where our first prophet is buried. We saw the Mighty Mississippi at it's widest point, and walked up and down the main street sampling famous fudge and shopping at the quaint little stores. All in all, it was a wonderful weekend teaching our children of the rich pioneer heritage of this era.

A family friend happened to get married this same weekend in Nauvoo, so we were able to attend the reception. Here we are before heading to the church, after having dinner at the Historic Nauvoo Hotel.

We spent the night in the cutest little cabin! It's a preserved home from the 1800's. It was small, but super cozy and the kids loved it.

Here are the three older kids standing in front of the rebuilt Nauvoo Temple. What a beautiful sight! I loved the simple architecture of the building and my favorite was the blue windows with the stars.

(Is Ally posing!?)

Sorry we missed you. We got to the reception late, you must have left before we got there. Were you able to go to the temple? It sounds like you had a great time with your family. Come again!

How fun to go up there! I've been wanting to make a trip that way as well. It's not too far from where I live now. I might have to get some tips from you if I ever make it up there.

I hope we can make a trip to Nauvoo next spring or summer. My cousin will be heading on his mission next year and they live in Omaha. So we hope to make a trip of it. I'll have to grab that cabin hotel's number if it starts panning out. It looks like you had so much fun. How neat for you to be so close!

Oh yeah I think that without knowing I stole your background. I think I even saw it on your blog on Sunday. I didn't even notice that they were the same. I guess we can be twiners(sp?) for a little while!

Jenni- I just realized I know the girl who was in the plane accident. Stephanie Clark ( her maiden name). She and her brother went to school with me, along with about 20 of her cousins. I hope they recover completely. Its so sad!!
