Notice a lack of posts and pictures on my blog??? Well, I have. Our laptops are needing some help---yes we lost two in two weeks---so I am on the old dinosaur of a desk top. Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to upload the pictures from my camera onto this thing. So I have a million pictures of my kids (all adorable, of course!) waiting to be uploaded and blogged about, but sadly cannot accomplish this task!!
Therefore, today I will blog about one of my favorite things to do with the kids!
Everyday when they get home from school, or while putting them to bed I ask each of them to tell me five things they did that day. Instead of the ususal shoulder shrug or 'I dunnos' and 'I can't remembers' I get when I simply ask about their day, I get a very enthusiastic response! We start in order of age, and everyone has to sit quietly and listen to everyone else's five things. It takes each child about 10-15 minutes to get through their list, and we end up hearing about every little portion of their day.
I love this tradition. I love hearing about what goes on at school while they are away from me, and I love their little personalities that really shine through--often very animatedly--while they are taking their turn. We are learning so much about each other, and it's even teaching patience for those who have to wait their turn. Reese.

what a smart idea!
Great idea...especially for a big family. I remember growing up and never being able to get a word in edgewise....or rather (more honestly) I am sure they could never get in a word over me.
ps. I totally feel your pc trouble...I went through that ALL summer...and I am still playing catch up. I say just get a new one.
Sounds great!
Thanks for helping me out the other day. It was nice to talk!
That's a fun tradition. It's always good to teach children to listen to others! We play high & low at dinner so everyone says their high and low of the day!
What a great idea! We do something similar at the dinner table... but it's to the format of "what was the BEST thing that happened to you today". Sometimes it's as weird as "oh, I got chicken nuggets for lunch today!"
We try to do the same thing at prayer time. We discuss several things as a family that we did that day and are thankful for. Then we pray and give thanks for those things. It is fun to teach our kids that there are new things everyday to be thankful for!!
