A Blogger's Paradise....

...is what Don said last night as I was snapping pictures during last nights severe thunderstorms.

It was the craziest thing! I walked out to the car and back, and noticed the clouds rolling in and the complete calm. I commented on it as we had dinner with the missionaries. About five minutes later is when the first tornado siren went off. What?! The kids (and the missionaries) started cheering. What?! We all ran outside (along with all the neighbors) to see what would promote a tornado warning, and still calm. So we turned on the news, took the Elders home and the sky turned dark and started to rain.

Storm tracking technology is amazing! They can pinpoint exactly where disturbances and cloud rotations are happening down to the exact street. We followed the storm as it came from the west and right over the top of us. More tornado sirens. "Get in the bathtub!" (No basement) We were a little nervous, but it never really got bad enough for us to get too freaked out--still you can never be too careful.

The kids thought it was fun hanging out in the bathtub:
(note the Wii steering wheel, Brayden wanted that to be saved too)
This kid thought it was fun too, he didn't want to miss the action outside:
Here's the real threat; our own little tornado:
They canceled all warnings around 8:30pm and off to bed (my bed) the kids went. The real action began at midnight--strong winds and thunderstorms with the most rain I've ever seen! The sky was lit up like a strobe light. No tornado warning this time, just strong straight-line winds. Missouri got hit the hardest, the storm picked up as it progressed north east with micro burst winds knocking over trees and ripping roofs off of houses.

Crazy midwest weather.

Jenni that sounds so scary! On the news it said tornadoes hit the Kansas City area and I was freaked out for you guys! I am glad the worst missed you. I've been in a few of those mid-west thunderstorms, they are intense! Good thing you saved the Wii steering wheel, what would you do without it? Brayden is so cute!

wow, glad you guys are ok! Do you have a weather radio yet? We got one the first spring we were out here and it is so great - I worry a lot less in the middle of the night...you set it for your county or surronding counties and then it goes off and wakes you up when you have a warning or watch. I worry so much at night - since all our rooms are upstairs and I would have to wake everyone up and get them downstairs in time.

Too funny about the wii steering wheel! Love it what the kids think of. Also - what did you think of Idol this week? I am so ready for Jason to be gone, I was ready a long time ago!

My American Idol OPINION:

Jason should be gone in place of Carly Smithson, and it was Brooke's week to go--as syrupy sweet as she is! It's going to come down to the two David's with Cook winning---??

We have storms like that here too. I think the sirens go off too much here, after a while they just don't have the effect they did the first time. Randy likes to watch the storms go through too... I like to watch the radar on the internet to see how close they are.

We are exactly with you on the American Idol update!

We are ALIVE!! I'm glad you guys made it too. How often does this happen out here?? I'm not to sure about how safe the whole bathtub thing is either...We need to come up with something else. Maybe some sort of bomb shelter! haha

I would have been totally freaked out. A tornado, next to my house burning down, is my biggest fear. I don't think that you could pay me enough to move in tornado territory. Glad that you guys are safe.

Those sirens kind of throw you for a loop, don't they? I understand we had some over our way last night, but I didn't hear them because I was asleep. Oops. Glad you guys are okay.
