I am becoming more and more....what's the word? I guess impatient would sum it up. I can't bring myself to blog these days and I think it's because of all the social media that has been thrust upon us all. These are the days of lightning quick information at our fingertips. Blogging to me now is a time consuming hobby that I don't have the patience for. I have been spoiled by the new social media technology age--updates in seconds, all on one page. It used to be, when I had some down time, I would check all my favorite blogs and update my own, and two hours later, I am done for the day. But I felt guilty for spending so long on the computer.
Then facebook came along...
and at first I thought it was such a waste of time, but the more I got on it, the more I found I preferred spending my down time on that site. I could spend about five minutes there and see what my friends are up to, and I didn't need to surf around to different blogs. Ease and convenience and speed. AND with my iphone, I can get on facebook anywhere at anytime.
Too easy and practically guilt free--I didn't need hours to update my status like I did with blogging.
Then Pinterest came along...
and I'll tell you what, that site is the culmination of coolness! Pinterest allows you to create your own page with your own 'pin boards' to 'pin' different ideas and websites you come across. You can have access to all the things you love right on one page. And it doesn't take up tons of space either, you can click on the thumbnail picture and it will expand and allow you to click on the actual website where it came from. You can follow others and get other cool ideas and 'repin' them onto your page. Bam. Everything you love or want to remember all on one site. Bookmarking has become a thing of the past. Everyone is 'pinning' now. Didn't you know?
(It's by invitation only, so if you want to join, let me know and I'll send you an invite!!)
Oh, and they have an iphone app, how can it possibly get any better?!
But then I discovered Twitter...
Ok, ok, before you start thinking what a dork I am, let me explain. I got a twitter account a few months back, I forgot about it, I tried to 'tweet' and couldn't figure it out, so I canceled it. Done. I decided I will not let myself indulge in any other fast paced social media for fear that I will forget how to actually communicate with people in real life, and I think that is exactly where our society is headed. I can't tell you how many times I've run into a facebook 'friend' somewhere and they completely acted like they didn't know me. Hmm, something is wrong with this picture. Plus there's the guilt that accompanies checking these sites and not paying full attention to the kids....so I have to limit my exposure...no twitter for me.
Blogging...
my first real online flame, will always hold a special place in my heart. I enjoy writing, I enjoy capturing memories of my kids for friends and family to see, but I don't enjoy the hours it takes to upload, edit and write up a post. I am going to try to be better though, I feel like it's a dying art, and I want to have it for my kids to see later or perhaps make into a book. So fear not blogger die hards---I am not letting go of blogging just yet.
I simply need to carve out some time in my increasingly busy life to write up a post.
I shall return in full glory!
