One Man's Trash...

One thing I quickly learned when I first moved to Overland Park, KS is:

THE GARAGE SALES ARE EPIC.

I am so not kidding.

Starting in about March and going through the summer months different subdivisions advertise and hold their own garage sales. People come from miles away. I've seen so many different cultures represented while garage sale-ing---so many walks of life. There are even professional garage sale-ers who bring large trucks and U-Hauls to carry their finds.

Most sales go from Thurs-Sat with neighborhood preview days. Whatever happened to the Saturday only ones? It gets a little crazy with all the extra days added on, but if you can get there early, you can usually score some good loot for next to nothing.

But if your the one having one, you can make lots of money. Case in point, some good friends shared a drive-way a few weekends ago for a neighborhood sale and one made over $1100!! The other two made around $300 each (I think). CRAZY! At one point there were 27 cars parked on the street in front of the house. Insanity.

Last weekend a few friends and I tried our hand at having our own. It totally rained. BUT we each made over $100, so not too shabby. We packed it all up and are hauling to another friends neighborhood this weekend for another shot. We also had a bake sale, because shopping makes you hungry! We made good money from our cookies/brownies/banana breads--so we'll do it again this weekend.

While out one weekend, my friend Olivia and I came across some hilarious things for sale at various locations. I wish I had pictures for all of them! Maybe one day we'll take a camera and start another blog dedicated to the crazy things people are trying to sell! You know what they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure...

Here's what we saw:
*old dirty bras
*half a box of tampons
*canned pear halves
*flushable wipes
*a horse drawn sleigh with mannequin sitting in drivers seat

I'm kicking myself for not jumping on that horse drawn sleigh while I had the chance!

More funny finds to come, I'm sure of it!

Hope the weather's better for you this weekend! Here's to making a ton of $! And I'm sure that sleigh is probably still for sale if you want it;)
