The Joys of the Apartment

While putting away the last of last weeks laundry session this morning, I discovered something! And that is that I now have a fresh (?) pile of dirty clothes to get me started on this weeks laundry session! I try to limit myself to specific laundry days so I don't get too burned out and ticked off at the never ending piles, but due to apt. issued washers/dryers that take TWO dry cycles, (I miss my own set!) I am beginning to understand that I need to do at least one load a day to keep up.

I also discovered in the closet of the girls room, that I shouldn't have turned away the pest control guys claiming "no pests here" the other day because the thought of packing up and hauling the babies out of the house for three hours in the cold did not sound appealing. We seem to have a few uninvited guests.

Oh well. At least our smoker neighbors upstairs from us have moved, now we only occasionally smell the smoker neighbors next to us. Things are looking up!

Also, the annoying kid who is three years older then Brayden stopped coming by too. This is a very good thing. I had to supervise their visits to make sure he didn't spill any further 'grown up' information to my oh-so-innocent child. I can't tell you how my heart broke when Brayden said "Mom, this is kinda awkward, how should I put this....John said Santa is not real" He literally said those exact words. So I said, "I still believe in Santa. Do you?" To which he replied, "I guess so" so I said "He's real as long as you believe he is." Crisis averted. For now.

Then there was the lady at the playground. She told me that I should keep my kids away from hers because she tends to be a "psychotic mom" who watches her kids "like a lioness." Uhh, yeah, you got it lady.

Did I tell you it's a gated community?? Which is great, except when the gate malfunctions and closes on your car scratching the ENTIRE right side. Or your friends can't get in because the code doesn't work and you have to drive down to let them in.

I love it when we find our car towed in the morning because it wasn't in a designated parking area! Note to management: EVERYONE PARKS IN THE NON-DESIGNATED AREAS. EVERYONE. We got made the example. After complaining we did get $100 out of the $200 we forked over to get it out of impound.

Also management, where are the USE SIDEWALKS AT YOUR OWN RISK signs? I've seen too many cars in too big a hurry to slow down for speed bumps so they drive up on the sidewalks to avoid them. Seriously??? The fact that I could have been in that exact spot had I walked out the door 5 seconds earlier and would have been hit, oh also my FOUR kids, makes steam come out of my ears.

People here in O.P. have dogs like people in Utah have children. They are everywhere and they leave presents everywhere. That is not allowed here in our complex, so yes I am the one making the anonymous phone calls to the office complaining about you, irresponsible dog owner. My kids have to walk on that grass, you know, because the sidewalks are no longer safe.

Don't get me wrong, it's not ALL bad. I like having maintenance guys at my disposal (even though they chain smoke, no I am not judging) and I don't miss the yard work. The rooms are huge, and the kids do have room to run. The pool and clubhouse equipped with vending machines are convenient.

When we came to Kansas almost a year ago (that went by fast!) we had no idea where we wanted to settle, or if Don would like the change in career, so we decided to rent for a bit. We're glad we made that decision, as we did have some kinks to work out. Now, the economy is super fun! Noticed? So we'll see where we end up this next year. I can't wait to settle down and have my own house again.

Sounds like things are going just how I hoped (so you would move back here)!!! Just kidding, it stinks when you like where you live except for those little annoying things that just won't go away. I hope things get better and I still hope you move back here to Mapleton or Springville!!!

HA! You brought back memories for me! Seriously.. the gate still doesn't work right? and it scratched your CAR? GASP! Can you believe I asked Mike if he wanted to move back into an apartment if it was way cheaper than where we are now.. his answer. NO WAY!

Hey... get maintenance to get you a new dryer! I mean it! If you keep complaining weekly, they WILL give you a new dryer (just to shut you up!)

I have lived in my share of apartments. The worst was a one bedroom dive that I cant tell you what we nick named the place... :)I would get out of the car, grab Colton and literally run to the apartment and lock the door behind us!! (It was all we could afford) and determined to be self sufficient as newly weds..The heat never ever worked,we were freezing all the time. When the maintenance guy would finally come to check on the furnace he would come in our apartment (still smoking) to work on our natural gas heater? UMMMM not sooooo safe not to mention rude.Side note..the car I was driving had no heater so we would go from a freezing apartment to a freezing car.. When we finally told the dump place we were moving out, they wanted to keep our deposit. Until I threatend to turn them in for the numerous times we didnt have any heat!! OHHH what a wondeful life. Funny thing is we talk about living in that place more than anywhere else we have lived. AHHHH the memories

Oh I remember the days of renting. It seems like their was always something that would drive me crazy about every place we lived. You sure have been through a lot in just one year. Their is nothing like living in your own home under your own rules and freedom, but then you do have all the added extra work. It's good that you are optimistic and look at the upside in things. Hopefully things will keep getting better, and you can avoid the crazy lady at the park and all the other things that have been happening.

Been there done that...wait still doing it!
We have a crappy dryer, and it takes me all day to do one load anyway.
And the doggie presents...don't get me started!
I feel for ya...and I can't wait to see where we go next.

Hey you guys were smart you didn't purchase a house last year, then it would be worth 3/4 of what you paid for it!! Hopefully you find your place soon wherever it might be!!!

I cannot believe it has already been a year since you moved. Just yesterday I was telling some friends about Tres Jolie and how I had never laughed so hard in my life. Those were good times. I say just keep watching the housing market plummet and then you will be glad you are not in one!

Jenni,
I don't know what to say. Were you having a bad day? It is sad that this is true. Come over this Saturday. Bring the costume with you. We will make it quick.

Thanks for all the comments! Might as well have a sense of humor about our living space, right? It's really not all bad, we are saving a ton and getting out of debt, what more can we ask for??
